Disney has been adding a dash of magic to childhood for nearly a century now. We all have our favourite classics and Disney names can be a great inspiration when you're looking for your own baby names. Whether you're looking for Disney princess names, Disney prince names or any other kind, there are lots of unique choices.

Disney baby girl names

1. Abigail

(The Aristocats)

Means: Source of joy, from Hebrew. She might be a silly goose in The Aristocats but we think Abigail is a beautiful name.

2. Alice

(Alice in Wonderland)

Means: Noble. The girl who finds things getting curioser and curioser after tumbling down the rabbit-hole is also now one of the most famous (if fictional) bearers of the name.

3. Amber

(Sofia the First)

Means: From the fossilised resin/precious stone amber. Perhaps one of the lesser known Disney princess names, Amber is Sofia's sister in the Disney Junior animated series Sofia the First.

4. Anastasia

(Cinderella)

Means: Resurrection or awakening. In Disney terms it's a beautiful name for an ugly sister. Also the star of an animated feature film called Anastasia, but that wasn't by Disney.

5. Angelica

(Pirates of the Caribbean)

Means: 'Messenger of God'. Pirates of the Caribbean might not be the first thing you think of when you think Disney but it was based on a Disney theme park ride and made by the company. Angelica was a beautiful but dangerous female pirate in the series.

6. Anna

(Frozen)

Means: Graceful and merciful. Elsa's younger sister Anna is a key character in Frozen and we love the sleek but simple beauty of the name.

7. Aurora

(Sleeping Beauty)

Aurora is the princess who pricks her finger and sleeps until a handsome prince wakes her with a kiss. With an Italian origin, it comes from the Roman goddess of the dawn.

8. Babette

(Beauty and the Beast)

Means: 'My God is my oath'. Babette is Lumière's girlfriend and one of the castle's maids who was turned into a feather duster during the Enchantress' spell.

9. Belle

(Beauty and the beast)

Belle is an unusual Disney heroine. Not only is she a commoner (the daughter of an inventor, not a King), she is also a feminist and a scholar. The French name means 'beautiful' and is a pet name for Annabel, Belinda and Isabella.

10. Bianca

(The Rescuers)

Means: White or bleached, from Italian. The smart, sassy mouth and heroine of The Rescuers, generally referred to as 'Miss Bianca'.

11. Celia

(Monsters Inc.)

Means: Of Latin origin meaning 'heavenly'. Also known as 'Schmoopsie-poo', Celia is Mike Wazowski's Medusa-like girlfriend in Monsters Inc., with a name that's far from monstrous!

12. Charlotte

(The Princess and the Frog)

Means: 'Free man', the feminine version of Charles. Charlotte 'Lottie' La Bouff is a flamboyant southern belle and Tiana's best friend.

13. Cinderella

(Cinderella)

Means: French origin, essentially meaning 'little ash-girl' but originates with the story of Cinderella. It's a bold choice for a baby name but some parents might want to go for the novelty.

14. Clarabelle

(Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)

Means: A combination of Clara (clear) and Belle (beautiful). The animated Clarabelle might be a cow (and one of Minnie Mouse's best friends), but it's still a lovely name for a little girl.

15. Colette

(Ratatouille)

Meaning 'Victory of the people, this is also the name of the feisty chef in Ratatouille.

16. Daisy

(Daisy Duck)

Old English origin, from the flower and Donald Duck's far more sophisticated on/off girlfriend.

17. Dory

(Finding Dory)

The forgetful little regal blue tang fish that goes on an epic adventure to find out where her friend Nemo has got to, Dory represents all there is to know about friendship and loyalty. The name is a pet form of Dora, which means 'gift.'

18. Elinor

(Brave)

A variation on Eleanor, which comes from Greek for 'bright, shining one'. In Brave Elinor is the queen of DunBroch and a vision of grace, wisdom, and strength of character.

19. Ellie Mae

(The Rescuers)

A combination name, used by the feisty leader of the Swamp Folk in the rescuers.

20. Elizabeth

(Pirates of the Caribbean)

Hebrew origin meaning 'pledged to God'. Elizabeth Swann is the swashbuckling heroine of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, played by Keira Knightley.

A German name, meaning 'oath of God' and is a shortened version of Elisabeth. It became popular in the 1990s and hit a peak recently, very much driven by the huge success of Frozen.

22. Esmeralda

(The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Esmeralda is the clever and magical gypsy who befriends the Hunchback, Quasimodo. A Spanish name that means 'emerald, the name has become popular over the last ten years.

23. Evangeline

(The Princess and the Frog)

Means: The bearer of good news. Evangeline is a star that others can wish upon in The Princess and the Frog.

24. Eve

(WALL-E)

Means: 'Life', the first woman in the Bible. You might not want to call your daughter Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator, which is the full designation of EVE in WALL-E, but Eve remains a classic name.

25. Flora

(Sleeping Beauty)

Means: 'Flower'. Flora is one of the three good fairies (with Fauna and Merryweather) in the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty.

26. Giselle

(Enchanted)

Means: Shining pledge. The heroine of the live action Disney film Enchanted, who dreamed of finding her very own real-life Prince Charming.

27. Hera

(Hercules)

Means: Lady, the wife of Zeus and queen of the Greek gods. You don't get many names with a stronger pedigree than that!

28. Jane

(Tarzan)

Hebrew origin for 'God is gracious'. Jane Porter is the smart if eccentric heroine and ethnologist in Disney's version of Tarzan.

29. Jasmine

(Aladdin)

Girls have been inspired by Disney's 1992 feisty princess who refuses to marry unless she can love and respect her future husband. The name comes from the Persian name for the flower, Yasmin. It has risen in popularity since the mid-1980s and is set to continue to be a trend-setter.

30. Kiara

(The Lion King II)

Of Irish origin, meaning 'small and dark'. Kiara is the main character in the Lion King sequel and the daughter of Simba and Nala, essentially making her a four-footed Disney princess.

31. Lilo

(Lilo & Stitch)

A multi-cultural name that can be found in Hawaiian, German and Hebrew naming traditions. The Hawaiian derivation means 'Generous one'.

32. Marian

(Robin Hood)

From the root name Mary, meaning bitter. Maid Marian is the love interest in most tellings of the Robin Hood story, including Disney's classic.

33. Merida

(Brave)

Of Latin origin meaning 'one who has achieved a high place of honour'. Despite Brave's setting, the first Pixar princess has a name that is more associated with Spain than Scotland.

34. Minnie

(Mickey Mouse series)

Originally short for Wilhelmina. The feminine of Wilhelm, which is the German form of William, meaning strong protector. And, of course, the bow and polka dot-loving Minnie Mouse.

35. Moana

(Moana)

Moana is girl's name of Maori, Polynesian origin meaning 'deep ocean, sea' and often used in New Zealand. It's also the name of the strong-willed protagonist of the Disney hit of the same name.

36. Mulan

(Mulan)

Means 'magnolia' (the flowering plant). The hit Disney film was based on the Chinese tale of the legendary folk heroine Hua Mulan.

37. Nala

(The Lion King)

Simba's childhood friend Nala (and later his love) helps him understand his responsibilities and place in the Lion pride – and let's face it, it's a gorgeous name! Fittingly, Nala means 'queen', 'lion' and 'gift' in Swahili.

38. Perdita

(One Hundred and One Dalmatians)

Means: Latin for 'lost', the name was invented by Shakespeare for a lost baby in his play The Winter's Tale and later shared by the momma dog in One Hundred and One Dalmations.

39. Rosie

(A Bug's Life)

A variation on Rose, from the flower. It might have suited a ladybird but was actually the name of the sleek mothering spider in A Bug's Life.

40. Roxanne

(A Goofy Movie)

Means: 'Dawn', from Persian origins. Roxanne is Goofy's love interest in 1995 animated feature A Goofy Movie.

41. Sally

(The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Originally a version of Sarah, meaning princess, but now a name in its own right. As a humanoid doll created by Dr Finkelstein, this Sally might be a little spooky, but the name itself is friendly and delightful.

42. Sofia

(Sofia the First)

A variation of Sophia, of Greek origin meaning wisdom. Sofia is a reluctant princess and the main character in hit CGI series Sofia The First, making this one of the less famous princess names in Disney productions.

(Moana)

Means: 'Stalking wolf'. Tala might be an older character in Moana but the storyteller is spirited, eccentric and independent and the name suits a little one just as well.

44. Tiana

(The Princess and the Frog)

Means: 'Fairy queen' or 'princess.' As well as being a beautiful name with a magical meaning, Tiana was notable for being the name of Disney's first black princess.

45. Tiger Lily

(Peter Pan)

A combination word name, Tiger Lily now sounds bang up to date, despite the Disney film of Peter Pan being released back in 1953 (and the original play in 1904!)

46. Ursula

(The Little Mermaid)

Latin for 'she-bear'. Ursula might be a villainous sea-witch in The Little Mermaid but we think the name is much cuter than that.

47. Violet

(The Incredibles)

From the flower/colour violet. We can't guarantee that picking this name will result in superpowers but, with her invisibility and force fields, Violet Parr really is incredible!

48. Wendy

(Peter Pan)

Means: The name Wendy might actually have been invented by J. M. Barrie for his 1904 story Peter Pan. From there it surged in popularity and even lent itself to the name of a children's playhouse – reflecting Wendy's role as 'Mother' to the Lost Boys.

49. Arthur

(The Sword in the Stone)

From the Roman clan name Artorius, meaning 'noble, courageous'. Still very much associated with the legend of King Arthur – which The Sword in the Stone retells in classic Disney style.

50. Bruno

(Cinderella)

Means: German for 'brown'. Bruno is the faithful bloodhound in Cinderella but we think it's a great Disney-inspired name for babies.

51. Buzz

(Toy Story)

Formerly a nickname. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin – who Buzz Lightyear's name is a reference to – was actually named Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. McFly's Tom Fletcher and I'm A Celeb... winner Giovanna Fletcher named their son Buzz though and we're sure there must be more, um, buzzing around!

52. Chip

(Beauty and the Beast)

Another former nickname. In Disney terms you've got the animated teacup in Beauty and the Beast and also Chip the chipmunk of Chip 'n' Dale fame.

53. Claude

(The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Means: 'Crippled'. Claude Frollo is the main bad guy in Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, as well as the Disney film of the same name. We love the sophisticated sound of the name though – which works even better for good guys!

54. Clayton

(Tarzan)

Means: 'Town of clay/ From a settlement on clay land'. The Clayton in Tarzan is another villain but the name itself feels much more solid and stand-up.

55. Dante

(Coco)

Means: Everlasting, eternal. Who's a good spirit guide? You are! Dante in Coco is more daft dog than anything else but we think the name has a stylish and sophisticated air.

56. David

(Lilo & Stitch)

Hebrew origin, 'beloved'. In Lilo & Stitch, the name of Nani's boyfriend David Kawena.

57. Donald

(Donald Duck)

Probably the most famous duck around, Donald has become known for his yellow-orange bill, legs and feet. Typically wearing a sailor shirt and cap; he is the epitome of comedy. Of Scottish origin, it means 'proud ruler'

58. Duke

(Zootopia)

Means: Aristocratic leader, from French. In Zootopia Duke is a smart-mouthed weasel but this could be a strong boy's name – as well as a good name for a dog!

59. Edgar

(The Aristocats)

Means: Prosperous spear. In The Aristocats Edgar is a butler gone bad but the name has a charm of its own.

60. Eric

(The Little Mermaid)

Means: Norse for king or ruler of all. Which is quite apt as Eric is the Disney prince and love interest for Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

61. Gaston

(Beauty and the Beast)

Means: From the province of Gascony. Gascon is one of Disney's most memorable villains but don't let that ruin this strong French boys' name for you!

62. Gus

(Cinderella)

Usually a short form of Angus, Augustine and Gustav, although the comedic mouse sidekick in Cinderella is really called Octavius.

63. Hans

(Frozen)

German and Scandinavian form of John, meaning favoured by God. He might not be the nicest guy when it comes to prince names in Disney films but we still love the name!

64. Kristoff

(Frozen)

A version of Cristopher (meaning 'bearer of Christ') and the handsome iceman hero in Frozen.

65. Louis

(The Princess and the Frog)

A French name (there have been loads of French kings named Louis) but based on the German word for famous warrior.

66. Maurice

(Beauty and the Beast)

Means: Dark skinned. Belle's father in Beauty and the Beast.

67. Marlin

(Finding Nemo)

A form of the Welsh name Merlin (also the wizard in The Sword and the Stone for a double Disney connection). Marlin is also the overprotective dad who never gives up in Finding Nemo.

68. Nemo

(Finding Nemo)

As for Nemo himself, the name could a short form of Nehemiah, meaning God's compassion (Greek). As well as the little clownfish, there was captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and Nemo also crops up as a given name in Shakespeare and Dickens.

69. Olaf

(Frozen)

Means: 'Ancestor'. Saint Olaf is the patron saint of Norway and Disney's Olaf is everyone's favourite little snowman!

70. Oliver

(Oliver & Company)

Associated with the olive tree and fruit. Oliver is also the adorable kitten who joins a gang of street dogs in a big Disney nod to Oliver Twist.

71. Pascal

(Tangled)

Of French and English origin meaning 'of the Passover; Easter'. And it just seems to suit the crazy chameleon that serves as Rapunzel's pet and friend.

72. Peter

(Peter Pan)

Means: 'Rock'. One of the biblical apostles but the name Peter is probably just as widely associated with Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up.

73. Phillip

(Sleeping Beauty)

Means: 'Lover of horses'. Prince Phillip is the love interest and eventual husband of Princess Aurora, making it a good choice of Disney prince baby names.

74. Ralph

(Wreck-it Ralph)

Means: 'Wolf counsel, advised by wolves.' Wreck-it Ralph might not be the most subtle but you can give the name a sophisticated twist with a Ralph Fiennes pronunciation.

75. Randall

(Monsters Inc)

Means a person from a border area or a village edge. He's the slippery bad guy in the Monsters Inc films but Randall makes a great name for little heroes too.

76. Rex

(Toy Story)

Means: King. The nervous dinosaur provides great comic relief in Toy Story but Rex is a strong name for your own little king. (Also suitable for beloved pet pooches!)

77. Robert

(Enchanted)

Means: Famous. Robert was the handsome protagonist in the Disney live action film Enchanted.

78. Roger

(One Hundred and One Dalmations)

Means: Famous spear. The human 'dog dad' to Pongo in 101 Dalmations, although Pongo considers Roger to be his pet.

79. Russell

(Up)

Means: Red-haired. A Norman name that was used for the character in this Pixar and Disney film from 2009, the eager young Wilderness Explorer joins main character Carl on his voyage to South America in a house tied to thousands of balloons.

80. Timon

(The Lion King)

Means: Honourable. The wise-cracking meerkat sidekick of Pumbaa.

81. Woody

(Toy Story)

The name of the Sherriff and Andy's favourite toy until Buzz Lightyear comes around, Woody is kind, brave and loyal. The name was almost unknown before the start of the 21st Century yet has become popular since, with the name set to reach its peak in 2020.

Disney unisex baby names

82. Andy

(Toy Story)

Means: Strong. Can be a shortening of Andrew, Andrea and other variations. Also the name of the toys' beloved owner in Toy Story.

83. Ariel

(The Little Mermaid)

The story of the little mermaid who would go through great pain to find her prince has always inspired lovers of this tale. Meaning 'lion of God' the name Ariel has become incredibly well liked as a unisex name in the last few years and will continue to be a trend-setter well into the 2020s.

84. Arlo

(The Good Dinosaur)

Means: Fortified hill or a form of Charles, meaning free man. Also the name of an Apatosaurus in Disney Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.

85. Coco

(Coco)

Diminutive form of the Spanish name Socorro and also the root word for chocolate. It's primarily a feminine name (as it is in the film) but Coco can also serve as a boy's name.

86. Cody

(The Rescuers Down Under)

Means: Cushion. Could also be from the Disney Channel sitcom The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

87. Copper

(The Fox and the Hound)

This isn't common by any means but could make a nice gender neutral Disney-inspired baby name. And besides, The Fox and the Hound always makes us cry!

88. Dash

(The Incredibles)

Another word name that isn't a traditional baby name but could certainly be used if you're looking for something quirky and adventurous!

89. Elliot

(Pete's Dragon)

Means: Jehovah is God. A biblical name that was also used for the dragon who befriends a little boy in Pete's Dragon.

90. Florian

(Snow White)

Means: Blossoming. One of the prettiest prince names in Disney films, this was the name of the prince in Snow White.

91. Flynn

(Tangled)

The hero of the tale of a girl with super-long hair has inspired many. It's an Irish name, meaning 'son of a red-haired man' and in fact Gary Oldman used it as his son Gulliver's middle name. Although primarily for boys, is sometimes used as a girls' name.

92. Jack

(The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Initially a pet name for John (meaning 'favoured of God) but now a strong unisex name in its own right. In Disney terms, could refer to Jack Skellington or Captain Jack Sparrow.

(Toy Story)

Means: 'God sees.' A nice gender-neutral or unisex Disney-inspired baby name for the rootinest tootinest little ones of any persuasion.

(Mickey Mouse series)

A diminutive form of Michael (male) and Michelle (female) and, in Mickey Mouse, Disney's most iconic character.

95. Michael

(Peter Pan)

Means: He who is like God. One of the Darling siblings in Peter Pan. These days Michael is primarily a masculine name but has been used for girls historically.

96. Milo

(Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

German form of Miles, meaning generous or soldier. Milo was a linguist, cartographer and the main protagonist in the 2001 animated feature film, Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

97. Remy

(Ratatouille)

Meaning: from the French town of Rheims. It's also the name of the lovable rat from Ratatouille and perfect for any budding chefs and dream chasers!

98. Robin

(Robin Hood)

Means: Famous, can be a short form of either Robert or Roberta and also the bird. Robin Hood was the titular hero of the Disney animated classic (and many other versions and legends besides).

99. Sid

(Toy Story)

From Saint-Denis in France. Sid was the name of the destructive kid in Toy Story but it's a lovely short and sweet name whether used in its own right or as a shortening of Sidney.

100. Willow

(Pocahontas)

From the name of the tree – in the Disney film Grandmother Willow is a speaking willow tree that acts as Pocahontas's guide.
