Key takeaways

  • Running buggies = fitness + family time; from light jogs to park strolls, these strollers let you stay active without leaving your little one behind.
  • Not all running strollers are created equal; features like air-filled tyres, handbrakes, and lie-flat seats make a big difference in performance and comfort.
  • Safety first, always. Only jog with your child once they’re 9+ months and can sit upright; until then, walking is the way to go

Parenting or taking a run? You shouldn’t have to choose between both.

Cue running strollers, the ultimate way to work out and take your little one along for the ride.

Made for sporty parents, a running buggy is a heavy-duty stroller made for walking and jogging, while giving mini passengers a safe and smooth ride.

The best part? Running strollers can actually improve your running form, as you’re less likely to over-stride. They give you a cardio workout that exercises your arms, shoulders and core, while the extra challenge of pushing a pram means your muscles are more engaged.

Buying a running buggy: what you need to know

“When you’re looking for the best jogging stroller, choose one with a lightweight frame, air-filled wheels and a lockable front wheel for navigating uneven ground,” says Bipan Suman, Assistant Buyer at Halfords. “You’ll also want to make sure it has a spacious under-seat basket, lie-flat option for naps and rain cover for unexpected showers.”

Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Running strollers aren’t built for strenuous running, so it’s recommended to walk or jog with them.

  • Do not jog with a car seat or bassinet attached to your running buggy.

  • If your baby is between 0-9 months, you’ll need to walk with your buggy.

  • Once your little one is 9 months old, you can start jogging, providing they can sit in upright mode and hold the weight of their head.

How to jog with a running buggy

Before you get set and go, here’s what the running experts have to say:

Abbie Watkins
- Abbie Watkins, Personal Trainer from OriGym

Always keep your chest out and shoulders back in an upright position. During your initial outings, it’s best to take it slow and get your bearings first.

Freddie Chatt
- Freddie Chatt, Fitness Expert and Founder of Village Cricket

Adjust the handlebar if it’s too low or high to avoid shoulder and back pain. Talk and sing to your little one while you move - it turns the workout into something you both look forward to.

Our top 5 running prams this year

We’ve been on the hunt for the best running buggies – reading reviews, comparing features, testing them out on different terrains, and speaking to real parents who’ve been there, jogged that. After all that, we’ve narrowed it down to our top five strollers that deliver on comfort, safety, style, and performance – so you can hit the ground running with confidence.

Drum roll please!

1. Thule Urban Glide 3

Whether you’re jogging through urban cities or wide-sand beaches, this Thule running buggy has it all, from large tyres to conquer rough terrains, a twist hand brake for control and a lockable front wheel for faster paces. As for your little cheerleader, the built-in leg rest and lie-back setting gives them a top tier seat.

What we loved about the Thule Urban Glide 3

The under-seat basket is pretty spacious, perfect for storing your running essentials in. Its canopy hood is worth a mention too, which gives your little one full coverage from wind, rain, sun and snow.

What we didn't like

Want to use this running pram with your newborn? You’ll have to dish out an extra £249.99 for the bassinet, as the pushchair can only be used from 6 months old

What other parents said

Some prams just make your life easier and this is one of them. It’s simple to manoeuvre through tight spaces, from corner shop doors to narrow hallways, giving me one less thing to worry about.

Our verdict

We highly recommend the Thule running buggy for active parents who want optimum comfort for their little ones, whether they’re doing some seated sightseeing or taking a snooze.

2. Ickle Bubba Venus Max Jogger Stroller

This running buggy was made for power walking and sweaty jogs, with thick air-filled tyres that reduce the sensation of niggly bumps along the way. The lie flat option is a game-changer for newborns needing to nap and the reflective trim on the wheels and hood keeps you both safe in the dark. Genius.

What we liked

Helping you feel in control, it features a self-locking front wheel, one-tap foot break and a wrist strap on the handle bar for extra security.

What we didn't like about this Ickle Bubba buggy

It’s quite large to log around, weighing 12.3kg (the heaviest of the bunch), but this also makes it super-sturdy on bumpy roads and cobbled streets, so we’ll pick our battles.

What other parents said

“I love how smooth this running pram is for jogging - it makes me feel free! The pop-out sun visor is really handy for summer days when I want to switch off and get into a running rhythm.”  Nathaniel, dad of two.

Our verdict

For a running buggy of such high standards, this is a bargain. We love that it comes with a footmuff, rain cover and tyre pump - phew.

3. Out n About Nipper Sport Single V5 Stroller

Hailed as the #1 jogging buggy, this tackles muddy tracks, woodland walks, forest paths and rocky trails like a pro. You’ll hardly feel any bumps and vibrations along the way - welcomed news for snoozing babies. Just like a bike, there’s a handlebar break that helps you slow down when you’re running downhill, plus a wrist strap for staying in control.

What we like about this running pram

You’re looking at the smallest running buggy on the market, which can fit into car boots, wardrobes and even IKEA bags (you read that right). Bonus, the front wheel is equipped with a mudguard to protect it from muddy water and dirt traps.

What we don't like

The storage basket isn’t as big as other running strollers and can be a little awkward to reach, especially when you’re in the jogging momentum.

What parents are saying

“I love that I can take this running pram to places I can’t with my pushchair, like sandy beaches and off-road tracks. The magnetic peek-a-boo window is my favourite feature, allowing me to check on my son without disturbing him.”  Rita, mum of one.

Our verdict

This running buggy encourages you to make off-road tracks your new stomping ground - and we can’t think of anything better. Got two tots in tow? Great news, it comes in a double jogging stroller too.

4. Hauck Runner Stroller

PSA: not all running strollers cost the earth. At a fraction of the price, this one has everything you need, like a 360° front wheel, lie-flat option for newborns, 5-point safety harness, removable bumper bar and a large shopping basket in easy reach.

What we like about the Hauck Runner

We’re loving the large washable footrest, designed to keep muddy shoes away from the seat’s fabric.

What we don't like

It requires two hands to fold up - a slight juggle with a moving toddler.

What parents are saying

“I love how sturdy it is when swivelling, which I have to do a lot when I look after my grandchildren. I’m not a runner, but I always find myself running after the kids (who are a lot faster than me), so this pram has made my life easier.” Sarah, grandma of two.

Our verdict

We think it’s the best running stroller to use as a second pram, as it still functions like an everyday pram if you don’t feel like jogging. Also, we’re big fans of the black and neon colour scheme. Cool, right?

5. Cybex AVI Running Pushchair

Running strollers don’t have to look like, well, running strollers. Meet the stylish pastel pink pram that’s a hit amongst active parents, thanks to its ultra-lightweight frame, which allows you to focus on your posture and maintain steadiness through bumpy peaks and uneven streets.

What we like about this running pram

It can be steered with one hand, leaving your other arm free to swing naturally. The handbrake also helps you control your speed as you move, helping you focus on your running form.

What we don't like

You’ll need to keep your left hand on the handlebar to use the brake while running - not ideal if it feels more natural with your right hand.

What parents are saying

“I feel so stylish when I run with this! My favourite features are the silicone slip-proof handlebar, perfect for rainy weather and sweaty palms, and the one-handed fold, which gives me a hand free to hold onto my toddler.” Annie, mum of three

Our verdict

This is the best running stroller for putting your workout needs first, without sacrificing on style. In our eyes, the only thing missing is a bumper bar, which gives parents added peace of mind when their baby is leaning forwards.

Choosing the right running pram means you don’t have to choose between staying active and spending time with your little one. With the perfect buggy by your side, every run becomes a chance to move, bond, and breathe – one stride at a time.
