Here at Emma’s Diary, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Pampers to celebrate premature babies; our little warriors.
Did you know that approximately 60,000 babies are born premature (before 37 weeks) each year in the UK? Well, let us introduce you to some of our little warriors…
Meet Hailee who was born at 34 weeks
“Being a mum to a preemie is pretty crazy, using teeny tiny nappies and bits of cotton wool to clean her up is one of the things I will never forget.
When she was born at a tiny 4lb 6oz, we couldn't just pop her in the regular size 1 nappies that we had been given so many of at our baby showers. We were given Pampers Preemie Protection nappies by the NICU which were tiny (up to 3 times smaller than a regular newborn nappy) but with similar features and qualities your regular Pampers nappies have! We used the P1 sized nappies and I think my favourite bit was the little dip at the front to make room for their umbilical cord stump in the early days.
If anyone I know has a preemie in the future or knows someone who has just had one, I will be recommending these nappies to them to make their entrance to preemie life a little bit easier!”

Introducing twins James and Michael
“The boys are 27 weekers and weighed just 2lb 6oz and 1lb 6oz, the Pampers Preemie Protection nappies that they once wore just remind us how strong and mighty they are. It can be extremely overwhelming having preemies, let alone worrying about how you’re going to find them these tiny nappies, thankfully Pampers are continuing to support us.“

Meet Amaya
“Amaya was born at 23 weeks and normal-size nappies weren't an option. We went hunting for preemie nappies until we found that Asda pharmacy provides them. Having these meant we could get involved with her care and provide her with the right size nappies. Amaya has come so far from fitting into the tiny little nappies and now wears a size 2. I will always recommend the Pampers Preemie Protection nappies and help other families who are unable to access them.”
Mum, Mischa
Harlow Hope, born at 31 weeks
“Harlow was born at 31 weeks after I suffered from severe pre-eclampsia. On delivery, they found out she had stopped growing weeks prior to being born and therefore she was born weighing only 2lb 5!
When Harlow was in NICU everything was just so scary. For the first few days Harlow didn’t even have a proper nappy until the NICU gave us a pack of Pampers Preemie Protection nappies! These nappies were absolutely tiny but fit Harlow so well! I loved the fact she could be like other babies by wearing her little nappy. These nappies were also incredibly soft on her delicate skin which gave me so much reassurance that they wouldn’t irritate her and therefore she could be as comfortable as possible.”

How Pampers continues to support premature babies and families
Pampers’ commitment to support the happy, healthy development of all babies, including those born prematurely, is greater than ever, and not only in the UK, but the world over where preemie care can vary country by country – and it’s a good job, as 15 million preemie babies are born every year around the globe, which equates to nearly 60,000 or one in 13 babies born in the UK.
This year, as well as continuing to donate its preemie nappies to UK hospitals and parents (over one million have been gifted so far!) Pampers is continuing its partnership with Bliss, the UK’s leading charity for babies born premature or sick, to support its initiative to emotionally support families of premature and sick babies, as well as supporting UNICEF to help some of the most vulnerable babies around the world.
