ANTENATAL CLASSES AVAILABLE DURING PREGNANCY
When you are pregnant the list of things that you think you need could be endless!
There are so many products on the market that all claim to do wonders for you or your baby and it can be very easy to fill your home with stuff whilst emptying your bank balance.
There are plenty of lists around that will tell you all the things you DO need when you have a baby but what about the things that you WON’T need?
Well, we’ve put together a list of some of the things that we think you won’t need to hopefully save you wasting your money.
1. Baby Shoes
They may look cute, but baby shoes are completely unnecessary and could even be a hindrance to your baby. Putting their tiny feet into shoes that are tight or have a hard sole could stop their feet from being able to grow freely and could be uncomfortable. Your baby will only need shoes once they start to cruise around and even then, it is worth going to a shoe specialist who can recommend the best type for your baby.
2. Cuddly toys
To help prevent SIDs you should never put stuffed toys in your little ones cot and babies don’t tend to show an interest in playing with cuddly toys until they are at least 6 months old. So, save yourself some space and some money and avoid purchasing lots of cuddly toys, no matter how cute and adorable they may be.
3. Changing table
Okay so this one is up for debate and whilst having a changing table is a nice to have, we would say it isn't essential - especially as your baby grows. Putting your baby on top of a changing table always runs the risk of them wiggling off so why not save the money and the risk by opting for a much cheaper and safer changing mat that you can pop on the floor.
4. Designer baby clothes
Let’s face facts…babies are messy. Milk, sicky, leaky nappies, explosive poops…babies tend to go through more outfits in a day than most people go through in a week! Sometimes the mess is so bad that it is best to just throw the clothes away rather than trying to get out stains and smells. That is why it is always best to go cheap and cheerful when it comes to your babies wardrobe as you don’t want to be worrying about them throwing up all over an expensive, designer top!
5. Nappy bin
Nappy bins aren’t too expensive to buy but you will have to keep buying the refill cassettes for them which can stack up. Why not save your self some money and just pop dirty nappies into a nappy sack and then into the bin? Same amount of effort but less impact on your bank balance.
6. Cot Bumpers
When you are shopping for your baby and decorating your nursery DO NOT buy cot bumpers. For years many people have been campaigning for them to be taken off the market as there have been many occasions where they have detached for the cot and have suffocated babies. They aren’t needed and can be such a huge risk.
